The Cory Christopher Story
From farm boy to designer…
Perhaps it was growing up on a farm, where tiny seeds become bountiful fields, and work doesn’t stop until the job is done, that instilled Cory Christopher’s seemingly endless drive, and vision to build from the ground up. Add to that the invigorating sense of belonging Cory discovered when surrounded by fellow creatives, developing his artistic talents and becoming comfortable in the spotlight. There are many chapters in this story, but what we know is this: Cory Christopher has dedicated his life to the business of creating – always growing, exploring new mediums, and proving that anything you can dream of is possible.
Cory Christopher was born into a hard-working family of farmers in Sturgeon County, Alberta. He spent his childhood planting trees and helping with the harvest before and after school, running through fields and letting his imagination soar. Being surrounded by nature and honest, hard work agreed with Cory, but as he grew, so did his dreams, which ultimately meant leaving farm life behind to make a name for himself as a artist and designer.
And so he bid farewell to rural Alberta, and set off to study theatre at Queen’s University in Kingston,Ontario. It was during these years, immersed in theatre, art history, and music Cory became enamoured with storytelling, the literal crafting of immersive experiences, and gained an ever greater appreciation for art in it’s myriad forms.
Although Cory loved the energy and cultural wealth of the big city, he was surprised to discover how much he missed his home, and its fields of possibility. Returning to Edmonton in 2008, Cory decided that what he wanted to grow was his own business. It started out simply offering landscape design services and helping his parents with their tree farm and garden centre, but the planting couldn’t contain his creative ambitions, and it wasn’t long before Cory was dreaming up whimsical wedding decor, modern, plant-meets-art installations, and his very own Christmas Market.
Cory’s creative ideas and excellent taste stood out as he contributed decor to prestigious events like the Festival of Trees, Mad Hatter’s Gala, Compassion House Foundation’s annual gala Fashion with Compassion, Taking Flight in support of the University Hospital Foundation Brain Campaign, garnering the attention and appreciation of many of Edmonton’s most prominent figures and trend-setting brands. In a few short years, Cory Christopher’s roster of regular clients grew to include Poppy Barley, Glow Juicery, Lululemon, Go Auto, Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, and Fairmont Banff Springs and many more.
